I’ve had my brace on for a month and I thought I’d share what I carry around with me. All these products are the ones that my orthodontist suggested that I use, so if your orthodontist says something different, then go by that. But if you are about to get braces, or are doing some research for a family member who is getting them, these are what I use.
As you can see in the above photo, I don’t carry that much. To be honest, I could probably use less, but with being out at work all day, I’d rather have more than I need!
- Toothbrush in a toothbrush holder
- Brace Wax
- Dental Floss (not used yet but wanted to have)
- Bonjela (not used yet but wanted to have)
- Painkillers (ibuprofen and paracetamol)
- Cosmetics Mirror (not used yet but wanted to have)
- Interdental Brushes (not used yet but wanted to have)
There are two items that I wanted to go into more detail about.
Firstly, the toothpaste. I chose this particular toothpaste as it’s a fluoride toothpaste, and antibacterial. My orthodontist told me to get a fluoride toothpaste. I also wanted something that was antibacterial as I had teeth taken before my brace was put on, and I wanted to help make sure that no infection followed. Also, don’t use a whitening toothpaste because part of your tooth is covered by the brace so once your braces comes off, you could end up with you teeth being two toned!
The second item I want to specifically mention was the mouthwash. I was told by my orthodontist to use an Alcohol free mouthwash, but to make sure it was a fluoride mouthwash. And this was one of the first ones I saw. I had a larger one at home and I just decant some of that one into this smaller bottle.
I hope this helps anyone who is curious about what to buy or use. I have only had my brace on for just over a month, and I’ve already had some complements that my teeth look straighter! I will do an update in a few weeks time with a before and now comparison.
